Crime Alert - Shooting Near (Off) Campus

After midnight on Sunday, October 1, 2023, officials from the Metropolitan Police Department and the HU Department of Public Safety (HUDPS) were canvassing the area around Banneker Park in response to shots fired in the vicinity. While the situation did not appear to pose an imminent threat to Howard University, we wanted to ensure the safety of our students and community members.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating an armed robbery reported at approximately 4:40 am in the 2100 block of 8th St., NW.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating a robbery by force and violence reported at approximately 11:56 p.m.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating a robbery reported at approximately 12:27 a.m. in the 1100 block of W St, NW.

The complainant was approached by 4 to 5 black males who occupied a black SUV in the 1100 block of W St NW.  The suspects were last seen heading northbound up 10th St. NW.

No injuries were reported at this time. The complainant is non-Howard-affiliated.

Crime Alert - Robbery

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating a robbery reported at approximately 1:50 a.m. in the 2200 block of Sherman Ave., NW.

A lookout for a group of juveniles who approached the complainant, attacked and robbed them of a cell phone and personal property. The juveniles fled on foot.

The complainant is Howard University affiliated.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating a shooting reported at approximately 6:05 a.m. in the 2200 block of 6th Street, NW.

Preliminary details of the investigation are still being gathered, but currently suggest that the complainant and potential suspects are not affiliated with Howard University.

Crime Alert - Armed Robbery

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating an attempted armed robbery reported at approximately 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of 5th St. and Gresham Pl., NW.

A lookout has been established for three Black males all wearing dark clothing and black ski masks. They reportedly approached the scene in a black coupe and exited the vehicle with one suspect brandishing a handgun at two complainants. They chased the complainants on foot before returning to their car and driving southbound on 4th St.
