HUDPS Annual Security & Fire Safety Reports
Howard University is required by federal law in accordance with The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, signed in 1990 and codified at 20 U.S.C. § 1092, known as the “Clery Act” to publish an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. The Howard University Department of Public Safety publishes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which includes information about the HUDPS, how to report a crime, HUDPS’s crime prevention programs, substance abuse, sensitive crimes, emergency notifications, and other important information about safety and security on campus. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains three years of statistics on reported on-campus related crimes, certain off-campus crimes that occur in buildings or properties owned or controlled by Howard University or crimes that occur on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible to the campus. In addition, the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes fire safety polices, evacuation procedures, and fire statistics. In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, colleges and universities are obligated to publish and disseminate the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, disclosing pertinent campus crime statistics and safety-related information annually. We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for Howard University is now accessible.
This report provides a detailed breakdown of crime statistics over the past three years (2021, 2022, 2023) pertaining to reported incidents on university-owned or controlled properties, as well as on public property adjacent to our campus. Furthermore, it includes an overview of institutional policies related to campus security, encompassing crime reporting procedures, emergency response and notification protocols, sexual assault response procedures, and other safety-related guidelines.
Additionally, the 2024 report includes a section on fire safety that provides statistics on fires that occurred within campus facilities during the preceding three years (2021, 2022, 2023), along with information detailing our University's fire safety policies.
Annually, we publish this report and make it available to all our current and prospective students, faculty, and staff members. We earnestly encourage the entire campus community to carefully review its contents.
