December 31, 2020

Dear Howard University Community,

The Howard University 2020 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is now available. As required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), the University’s combined annual report contains security and personal safety policies, procedures and information about reported crimes and other emergency incidents that have occurred on and nearby each of the University’s campuses.

To prepare the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, the University, through the Department of Public Safety (DPS), collects, classifies and counts crime reports, crime statistics and other safety incident reports. The report includes a compilation of information from the past three years for incidents that are reported and that have occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Some of the pertinent campus security and personal safety topics disclosed in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report include:

  • crime prevention;
  • fire safety;
  • law enforcement authority;
  • crime reporting policies;
  • disciplinary procedures; and
  • security of and access to campus facilities.

The report is made available each year to all current and prospective students and employees of the University. The University encourages the entire campus community to review this report. Electronic copies of the report can be accessed from the DPS website, and it can also be viewed on the Bison Safe app. A hard copy will be made available upon request.
