Howard University is required by federal law in accordance with The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, signed in 1990 and codified at 20 U.S.C. § 1092, known as the “Clery Act” to publish an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. The Howard University Department of Public Safety publishes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which includes information about the HUDPS, how to report a crime, HUDPS’s crime prevention programs, substance abuse, sensitive crimes, emergency notifications, and other important information about safety and security on campus. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains three years of statistics on reported on-campus related crimes, certain off-campus crimes that occur in buildings or properties owned or controlled by Howard University or crimes that occur on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible to the campus. In addition, the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes fire safety polices, evacuation procedures, and fire statistics.
