Fire Safety Resources
Between 2017 and 2021, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 3,379 structure fires each year in dormitories, fraternity houses, sorority houses, and military barracks.
Most fires in these residential facilities originated in kitchens or cooking areas, accounting for nearly 75% of all incidents. Cooking equipment was involved in almost 90% of the reported fires, making cooking-related activities the leading cause of fires in dormitory-style housing.
