After midnight on Sunday, October 1, 2023, officials from the Metropolitan Police Department and the HU Department of Public Safety (HUDPS) were canvassing the area around Banneker Park in response to shots fired in the vicinity. While the situation did not appear to pose an imminent threat to Howard University, we wanted to ensure the safety of our students and community members.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating an armed carjacking that occurred near the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Gresham Pl., NW.
