Robbery - ADVISORY

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), along with the Howard University Department of Public Safety (DPS), is investigating an alleged robbery of a Howard University student, reported to DPS at approximately 3:45 a.m. and having occurred between midnight and 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of 8th Street, NW.

The complainant reported that while walking in the area, he was approached from behind by three to four suspects. He was struck and knocked to the ground, and the suspects took his cell phone and wallet.

The subjects were last seen entering a dark-colored Nissan SUV with unknown tags. They are described as black males, all wearing dark-colored clothing.   

Anyone with information about this incident should immediately contact the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 202-806-1100 or call 911 to reach MPD.   

The Howard University Department of Public Safety notifies the University community when crimes are reported that present a continuing threat to the students, faculty, or staff in a manner consistent with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.    

General Safety Tips:     

  • Avoid isolated and dark areas.     
  • Carry your mobile phone and keep it accessible.  
  • Do not use doors marked as fire exits, prop, or obstruct them for unauthorized access.     
  • If you are approached, take note of the person’s appearance, clothing and anything that will help to identify the subject.
